American Apparel’s New Sunglasses Are Curiously Similar To Chanel’s Dual Tone Lens Model

As soon as I saw these new dead stock sunglasses from AA, lights flashing “Nicole Ritchie” were flashing in my brain. Usually this is not the best of signs (since she is the Queen of Boho), but this was different. Now, these are obviously of a lesser quality; so don’t begrudge me for a comparison of the two.

I was reminded of Chanel’s SS 2008 perfectly round runway sunglasses with the split lens. The AA “Zoe” design is more of an oval shape and has more of a gradient; but otherwise compares to the visual of the Chanel glasses fairly well. Despite all this, the $86 price tag is disappointing indeed for an item like this.

If these are actually deadstock years old as AA claims they are, then who knows what came first; these or the Chanel design? Unkle Karl, are you out there?
