Want Of The Day: Gap Plaid Shirred Yoke Skirt

For Fall 2008’s tartan frenzy, the Gap’s plaid yoke skirt is an easy solution. Plaid skirts have a high tendency to be predictable, unfashionable and a little too pigeon-holed by Catholic schoolchildren; but this particular piece manages to avoid all of the above.

The first plus is the lack of pleats.  Where you think pleated skirts; either the aforementioned school children or grannies come to mind.  If you’re not going for the grandma-hipster look, listen up.  The term ‘shirring’ is another word for gathering, so you get the texture and the details without having the overlapping pleats.  The second win for the design is the thick waistline.  The buttons give a nice detailing, while the waist gets instantly defined by the line above the loose skirt.

Currently, this skirt is on for $33. I can’t really think of another retailer with a better piece design for a lesser price.  Get on it!
